Wondering what the Difference Between Microblading, Combo & Machine Shading is? Let me explain...

Before getting into this business, I always wondered what the difference was between all the brow options. Why do some people get one type of brow and others get something different? Is one better than the other? I hope I can help answer some of your thoughts and questions when it comes to determining the perfect brow for you!

Microblading?

Microblading is a form of tattooing…semi-permanent tattooing. Unlike a regular tattoo, microblading is a form of tattoo artistry where pigment is implanted under your skin with a manual handheld tool instead of a machine...the drawing of hair-like strokes with the tool to mimic natural hairs in your brows. This treatment is slated to last 1-3 years depending on your skin type. The ink fades up to 40%, and only an average of 80% of the microbladed stokes stay with each session. Extremely oily skin types may not be good candidates as pigment retention may be affected. The hair-like strokes, are placed either in between the natural hairs, give the brow volume and the illusion of thickness, or starting from scratch and creating a whole new pair of brows on clients who don’t have them for whatever reason.

Machine Shading? Machine Shading, Powdered Brows, also known as Ombre brows, are a semi-permanent eyebrow styling technique that creates a soft shaded brow pencil look. It is particularly recommended for women with oily skin or combination skin or anyone who fills in their brows regularly with pencil or shadow. Powder Brows are a type of permanent make-up, where through the process of inserting pigment into the upper layers of skin with a cosmetic rotary machine, it creates the desired fullness and design of the eyebrows. Ombre brows can last anywhere from two to five years. The purpose of shading is to add a soft shadow underneath the hairs or strokes that gives depth and dimension to the brows and fills in any unattractive sparse patches. The technique in this case implies dotting or “pixelization” – the microneedle is reinserted countless times, injecting pigments in tiny dots.

Combo Brow?

A mix of microblading and ombre powder brow shading to mimic real hair strokes at the head/beginning of the brow and ombre tattooing in the body and tail of the brow for clients who desire a bit more of a realistic look than ombre powder brows alone offer. Extremely oily skin types may not be good microblading candidates, as pigment retention may be affected.

All are great options, but it will ultimately depend on many factors - weather or not you are a candidate for a certain type of brow. Brow treatment type is chosen based on your skin texture, type and pore size. The retention will also depend on a number of factors, such as lifestyle, skin type and texture, sun exposure, health condition, etc. Your Brow Artist will help you choose the best choice for you! But not having to draw on your brows anymore…what more could you want?!? Best choice I ever made!

I'll add some examples below....

<~~ This is a perfect example of Microblading for this client who just wanted to add some strokes to her existing brows.

Machine Shading Brow...This client loves a dramatic and sharp brow look! These babies fit her perfectly! ~~>

<~~ Combo Brow! For those who like a little of both options. This one is my favorite!

There's an option to fit anyone and any life style! If you'd like to book a treatment appointment or a consultation...let me know! I'd be happy to make your brows look fabulous!
